E.ON France Trialling Hydrogen Storage at Coal-Fired Power Station in France

19 Dec 2012

E.ON France has been testing a solid state hydrogen storage device from McPhy Energy at its 600 MW coal-fired power plant in Moselle; it is the first time the McPhy metal hydride technology has been tested under industrial conditions and is part of a number of tests E.ON is conducting to assess the economic and industrial interest of different energy storage technologies. The McPhy system was installed in October and can hold up to 4 kg of hydrogen. E.ON is analysing the quality of the hydrogen as well as the efficiency, flexibility, and load cycling durability of the system as well as studying potential future business models in which the system could be implemented.
